The Federal Reserve's surprise announcement Wednesday that it would purchase more than $1 trillion in Treasury securities and mortgage bonds in hopes of sparking greater economic activity shows that Chairman Ben Bernanke is working hard to keep his pledge to do whatever it takes to reverse the nation's deep recession.

We here are very sad to report that Natasha Richardson has apparently indeed been declared brain dead after a traumatic head injury caused by a ski accident Monday in Canada. The “New York Post” is reporting the family gathered at her bedside last night to say their final goodbyes. The 45 year old actress’ condition has been described by doctors as a “leakage of blood between the brain and skull,” with Richardson’s family soon facing the decision on whether or not they should continue to administer medical assistance.

“There is no chance,” said a family friend Tuesday night. “It is a fact that her heart is beating but she is brain dead. It’s not official yet, but they basically will detach her.”

As reported by TMZ, Richardson was unconscious, her pupils were non-reactive, and her skin was pale during her ambulance ride in New York to Lenox Hill Hospital. Her husband Liam Neeson held her hand and caressed her face the entire ride as he sat in silence. Their plane landed in New Jersey where medics on board told members of the ambulance team that Richardson was brain dead. Reps for the family have declined to comment, although her family is expected to release a statement today.

Heartbreaking. Our hearts and thoughts go out to her entire family at this tragic time.

In his recent TV appearance [reported on at Huffington Post, as reprinted below], Dick Cheney said "And now he [President Obama] is making some choices that, in my mind, will, in fact, raise the risk to the American people of another attack."

Some investigators of September 11th have concluded that Cheney himself played a key role in "letting 9/11 happen."

For example, David Ray Griffin in THE NEW PEARL HARBOR REVISITED (page 94) writes: "Accordingly, the Commission's treatment of Norman Mineta's testimony provides one of the clearest examples of its attempts to cover up the truth, which in this case involved Cheney's presence in the PEOC [Presidential Emergency Operations Center] during a crucial 45-minute period, during which he apparently confirmed a stand-down order."

Cheney refused to testify under oath before the 9/11 Commission. If it is true that Cheney played a key role on 9/11, then his statement about "risk ... of another attack" could be seen a veiled threat about another attack--possibly now in the planning stage.

We are sad to report actress Natasha Richardson has passed away today after suffering a critical brain injury from a ski accident in Quebec, Canada.

Husband Liam Neeson has released the following statement: “Liam Neeson, his sons, and the entire family are shocked and devastated by the tragic death of their beloved Natasha. They are profoundly grateful for the support, love and prayers of everyone, and ask for privacy during this very difficult time.”
