The financial, economic and social crisis is deepening. For a few months, some people were able to believe that Asian economies, especially the Chinese and Indian economies, would hold firm in the storm. That illusion was quickly dissipated. Everywhere in the world, leaders are plugging up breaches, running as fast as they can, schooled by the distant or recent past in the risk that the whole structure could collapse like a house of cards.
